Bournemouth sexual health doctor jailed
A sexual health doctor who practised in Bournemouth has been jailed for assaults on patients.
Timothy Girling, aged 55 and of West Molesey in Surrey, was sentenced to 6 years in prison at Bournemouth Crown Court after being convicted of three counts of sexual assault, six offences of voyeurism and one of attempted voyeurism.
Dorset Police launched an investigation in August 2023 after a male patient reported noticing Girling recording on his mobile phone during an examination and taking the device before the doctor fled the scene, with the victim also reporting inappropriate touching.
Further enquiries identified two additional patients who had been sexually assaulted, one of whom had also been recorded, while analysis of Girling’s digital devices uncovered other recordings including covert footage and indecent images of children.
Detective Constable Kit Little said, “Timothy Girling was in a position of trust as a sexual health doctor and exploited this by inappropriately touching and making recordings of his victims.”
Lucy Paddick of the Crown Prosecution Service said Girling repeatedly violated the trust placed in him by patients and used his professional role to facilitate the offences and secretly record intimate examinations.
Dorset HealthCare has set up a dedicated phone number for anyone treated by Girling to raise concerns or access support.
