Poole cyclist seriously ill after lamp post crash

A 51-year-old woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a collision with a lamp post in Bournemouth.

Emergency services were called at 4.47pm on Thursday 26 February 2026 to Prince Of Wales Road after reports that a cyclist had collided with the stationary object, prompting a response from officers and paramedics.

The cyclist, who is from Poole, was taken to hospital for treatment. Dorset Police confirmed that her next of kin has been informed as enquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Investigators from the Roads Policing Team are now working to establish exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the collision and are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident to come forward.

Police Sergeant Dave Cotterill said officers are carrying out enquiries to understand the full circumstances of the collision and urged witnesses to contact police. He also said he is keen to hear from drivers who were in the area at the time and may have captured relevant dashcam footage.

Prince Of Wales Road was the focus of police activity following the report, as officers began gathering evidence and speaking to potential witnesses in the vicinity.
