Dorset residents shape future NHS plans locally

Dorset residents have played a key role in shaping the NHS ten year health plan, with seventeen local workshops held to gather views from communities across the county.

The engagement followed a national conversation launched by Change NHS in October 2024, which considered 250,000 ideas from the public and staff. In Dorset, organisations worked together to promote surveys and host discussions with a wide range of groups, including patient and carer networks, young people, armed forces veterans and Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities.

Workshops focused on making better use of technology, moving more care from hospitals into communities and preventing sickness rather than just treating it. One youth representative said the discussions felt tangible and meaningful and gave young people a voice on real issues.

Healthy lifestyle support, including blood pressure checks and advice, was offered during sessions. Work is continuing with traveller communities and local charities to provide monitors and ongoing support.

All Dorset feedback has been shared nationally and will also inform the area’s five year commissioning plan, with a commitment to ongoing engagement and regular updates for local people.
