Poole hospice charity calls for dragon boat crews

Forest Holme Hospice Charity is inviting teams to take part in the Poole Park Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday 6 June, as it looks to raise funds for patients and families across Poole, Wimborne and the Isle of Purbeck.

The event will see teams of 17 people, made up of 16 paddlers and one drummer, race along a 200 metre course in three timed heats, with the fastest crews progressing to the grand final. Each race lasts between 60 and 90 seconds, creating a full day of competitive racing, with fancy dress encouraged.

Claire Cooper, Events and Challenges Manager at Forest Holme Hospice Charity, said events like the festival bring people together in a positive way and every team helps the charity continue to provide care, comfort and support when it is needed most. She said last year even included a team of nurses, consultants and charity staff, creating a strong sense of community.

Participants must be aged 12 or over and at least 12 paddlers are needed to remain competitive. Training and safety support will be provided, making it open to beginners and experienced crews alike.
