Man arrested on suspicion of murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in Poole.

Officers were called at 6.46am yesterday after a report that a man required medical treatment in Lakeside Road.

Police attended alongside the ambulance service and the man, who was in his fifties, was taken to hospital in a serious condition. He later died during the afternoon and his next of kin have been informed.

An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death. Following early enquiries, a man aged 44 from Oxfordshire was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He was later further arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue. Police have confirmed the two men were known to each other.

The death is being treated as unexplained and detectives say the arrest was made to help gather information while providing legal protection to the individual involved. A road closure was put in place to allow officers to examine the area and it reopened at around 8pm.

Police said, “Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.” An increased police presence will remain in the area while enquiries continue.
