Twin Sails bridge re-opened in Poole

The Twin Sails bridge in Poole has reopened to traffic after engineers completed repair works and carried out successful test lifts.

BCP Council confirmed the bridge was lifted several times over the weekend to check it was working as expected, with no issues identified. Traffic was able to use the bridge again from 2pm this afternoon.

Councillors were told the repairs were technically challenging and required a very high grade of steel, which only a limited number of manufacturers can produce, leading to longer delivery times. The council said improvements have been made to internal processes to allow future repairs to be carried out more efficiently.

In an update, the council said physical works on the bridge are now complete, while in house teams continue to carry out minor works aimed at improving reliability and long term resilience.

The Twin Sails bridge is a key route in Poole, linking the town centre with Hamworthy and supporting local travel and movement around the harbour.
