Yellow rain warning for BCP area

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole are among the areas covered by a yellow weather warning for rain, issued by the Met Office.

The warning is in place from midday today until nine o’clock tomorrow morning and highlights the risk of further rainfall on Monday and into Tuesday. The Met Office says rain may become persistent later on Monday and overnight, before gradually easing and clearing into Tuesday.

Rainfall accumulations of ten to twenty millimetres are possible fairly widely, with higher totals in parts of the South West. With ground already saturated following recent rain, there is a chance of some flooding and disruption in places.

The warning states there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, with a risk of damage to buildings. Fast flowing or deep floodwater could pose a danger, and some communities may become temporarily cut off by flooded roads.

There is also a slight chance of delays or cancellations to bus and train services, alongside difficult driving conditions due to spray and surface water. Power cuts and temporary loss of services are also possible in some areas.

Residents are being advised to check whether their property is at risk of flooding, review travel plans and stay up to date with the latest local forecasts, as weather warnings can change quickly.
