Flood alert issued for Dorset coast areas

Flashback: Flooding at Sandbanks in Poole

Flooding is possible along parts of the Dorset coast during high tides today.

Coastal roads, footpaths and car parks around Poole Harbour and nearby shoreline locations may be affected, with the warning covering areas including Sandbanks, Bournemouth Beach, Hengistbury Head, Christchurch Harbour, Swanage Bay and Studland Bay.

The alert for the Dorset coast at Poole Harbour states that flooding is possible between 10:15am and 1pm on Friday, with high tide levels forecast to reach 1.37 AODN alongside south easterly winds of force six.

A separate alert for the east coast of Dorset warns of similar conditions from 9:30am until 1pm, with people advised to avoid travelling through coastal routes and low-lying areas while the situation continues to be closely monitored.
