Scooter rider dies after town centre crash

A man has died following a serious collision involving an electric scooter in Bournemouth town centre, police have confirmed.

Officers were called at around 1.55am on Monday fifth January this year after a report of a collision on Old Christchurch Road, opposite the Popworld nightclub.

The rider of the electric scooter, a man aged in his twenties, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and very sadly passed away on the afternoon of Monday twelfth January this year.

His family have been informed.

Police said the pillion passenger on the scooter, a man in his thirties, sustained minor injuries during the incident. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision in the busy town centre location.

Sergeant Mike Burt, of the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Dorset Police, said officers’ thoughts were with the family and loved ones of the man and urged witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward to assist the investigation.
