AFC Bournemouth lose Newcastle shootout
Bournemouth went out on penalties at Newcastle United after a three all draw, with the home side winning the shootout seven six.
After a goalless first half, Newcastle moved in front early in the second half through Harvey Barnes, before Bournemouth hit back on sixty two minutes when Alex Scott scored from close range after Evanilson’s contribution in the build up.
Bournemouth then took the lead on sixty eight minutes as David Brooks finished from outside the box on a fast break, putting the visitors in control until Newcastle were awarded a penalty in stoppage time, which Anthony Gordon converted.
The match stayed level through much of extra time, but Newcastle went ahead in the one hundred and eighteenth minute when Barnes headed in from close range, only for Bournemouth to equalise at one hundred and twentieth minute plus two through Marcus Tavernier after a through ball from Álex Jiménez.
In the shootout, Djordje Petrovic saved from Bruno Guimarães and Nick Woltemade hit the bar, but Bournemouth saw penalties from Evanilson, Álex Jiménez and Bafodé Diakité saved by Aaron Ramsdale as Malick Thiaw converted the deciding kick.
