Man dies after collision in Poole

A man in his 20s has died following a hit and run collision in Poole during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Dorset Police were called at 2.12am on Wednesday 7 January after the man was found unresponsive on Wimborne Road, close to the junction with Heath Avenue in Oakdale, with enquiries indicating he had been struck by a vehicle that failed to stop at around 2.06am.

Emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, with his family informed and supported by officers as detailed forensic work and scene examinations were carried out to establish what happened.

Following extensive enquiries, a 51 year old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences and remains in police custody while the investigation continues.

Road closures were put in place along Wimborne Road into the afternoon to allow officers to complete their work, with police thanking residents and motorists for their patience during the disruption.

Inspector Joe Wheable said officers were carrying out a thorough investigation and urged witnesses, anyone with dashcam footage, or residents with home CCTV near the scene to review recordings and contact police if they have information that could assist enquiries.
