Winter water bill support expanded
Extra help with water bills is being extended this winter to support more households across the South West.
Additional financial support worth £200 million is now being rolled out, extending assistance already in place for 125,000 customers at a time when many families face higher seasonal spending pressures during the festive period.
The package, announced earlier this year, sits alongside a long term commitment to end water poverty by 2030, with a focus on making sure every household can access affordable bills regardless of income or personal circumstances.
Measures include discounted tariffs, flexible payment support, water efficiency advice, checks to ensure people receive the benefits they are entitled to, and proactive work to identify customers who may be struggling before debts build up.
Alongside household support, £5m is being invested through the Better Futures programme, which funds local community groups working on wellbeing, education and environmental resilience, helping support reach wider neighbourhoods as well as individual homes.
Lesley Horn, Customer Care Manager at South West Water, said the company understands the pressure many people feel at this time of year and wants customers to avoid worrying about essential bills during the festive period.
She added that around 125,000 customers already benefit from existing schemes, with ongoing work to move people on lower incomes or receiving benefits onto the lowest appropriate tariff for their circumstances.
