Bournemouth florist earns top eco award
MeadowSweet Posies in Bournemouth is celebrating after being named Sustainable Business of the Year at the New Forest Brilliance in Business Awards held at Brockenhurst College on Thursday 4 December.
The recognition follows the company’s work to cut its carbon footprint by using British grown flowers all year.
The business operates an online subscription service that relies entirely on locally sourced blooms, avoiding imported flowers that make up most of the UK market. Founder Sophie Townsend said the team was delighted to receive the award and described it as an acknowledgement of their long-term focus on sustainability.
She explained that the business began as a small family project using flowers grown in local gardens and nearby plots before expanding through a partnership with a larger family run flower farm. She also highlighted the environmental benefits of choosing British flowers, which have a significantly lower carbon footprint.
Sophie said the company aims to connect customers with nature while protecting the environment and hopes its work will encourage more people to appreciate seasonal flowers.
