Cherries fall short at Sunderland game

Amine Adli

AFC Bournemouth left the Stadium of Light empty-handed after a three two defeat to Sunderland, despite moving into a two goal lead inside the opening quarter of an hour.

Amine Adli opened the scoring with his first goal for the club after reacting quickest when Antoine Semenyo’s cross was saved, and Tyler Adams soon added a looping strike from the halfway line that caught the goalkeeper off his line.

Sunderland reduced the deficit before the break when Enzo Le Fee converted a penalty following a lengthy VAR check.

The hosts levelled seconds into the second half as Bertrand Traore’s low shot found the near corner. Bournemouth briefly thought they had restored their advantage but Evanilson’s finish was ruled offside.

Brian Brobbey then headed in a corner midway through the second period to complete the turnaround. Marcus Tavernier struck the underside of the bar late on as the visitors pressed for a leveller in torrential rain.

Substitute Lewis Cook was sent off shortly before the final whistle for catching Noah Sadiki.
