Clifftop flats plan set for approval
Plans to replace a 1950s block of flats on Boscombe Overcliff Drive with a new six-storey residential and leisure complex are expected to be approved this week.
Clifftop Development Ltd has submitted an outline application to demolish Purbeck Court, at 65-67 Boscombe Overcliff Drive, and replace it with twenty-two flats featuring underground parking, a swimming pool and a gym spa complex.
The plans also include bin and cycle storage and a detached dwelling fronting Rotherfield Road with its own access and parking. Five of the new flats would have three bedrooms, while the remaining seventeen would be two-bedroom properties.
Planning documents show the application was submitted in April last year and went through consultation between May last year and July this year.
A total of forty-eight objection letters were received, with thirty-eight from properties within a mile of the site. Concerns raised include the scale and design of the building, potential traffic impact, overpopulation, and cliff stability.
The site already has planning permission for a smaller five-storey block containing nineteen flats, granted in 2023.
If approved, the new development will be subject to conditions including a demolition statement, construction management plan and material samples. A Section 106 agreement will secure £369,926.50 in local contributions, covering heathland mitigation, biodiversity monitoring and affordable housing.
The eastern area planning committee of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council will consider the application on 20 November.
