A major fire broke out on Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth late last night, with parts of the area still closed this morning as investigations continue.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called at 10.21pm with reports of a property fire. Fire crews from across Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire were sent to the scene, including appliances from Springbourne, Westbourne, Redhill Park, Poole, Christchurch, Hamworthy, Verwood, Wimborne, Salisbury, Blandford, and a pumping appliance from New Milton, supported by a water carrier from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

A spokesperson said: “Access to the area has been restricted and we are advising local residents to keep doors and windows closed.”

Dorset Police confirmed that Old Christchurch Road was closed to traffic overnight to allow emergency services to manage the scene safely. Officers thanked the public for their patience and urged drivers to use alternative routes until the area is reopened.

Fire crews remained at the scene into the early hours to ensure the blaze was fully under control and to begin investigation work into the cause.

Update, Monday 8:30am from the Fire service: “Our stop came in at 2:45am and crews remained on scene damping down. At 4am, the incident was scaled back at two pumps for a watching brief and resources will remain on scene for some of today. No casualties have been reported.”
