Cherries’ unbeaten run ends at Manchester City

AFC Bournemouth’s eight-game unbeaten Premier League run came to an end this evening after a three-one defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The home side took the lead in the 16th minute when Erling Haaland broke through from a Rayan Cherki header to score. Bournemouth responded eight minutes later, with Tyler Adams converting an Alex Scott corner from close range for his first goal in English football.

City restored their lead in the 32nd minute as Haaland rounded Đorđe Petrović to secure his second of the night and his thirteenth of the league campaign.

Bournemouth’s defence, led by Marcos Senesi, continued to hold firm with Petrović making key saves to deny further City chances before half-time.

The visitors started the second half strongly, forcing goalkeeper Donnarumma into action to stop efforts from Junior Kroupi and David Brooks. But in the 59th minute, Nico O’Reilly extended City’s advantage with a low strike into the bottom corner.

Andoni Iraola made several substitutions, introducing Lewis Cook, Evanilson, Justin Kluivert, Ryan Christie, and Ben Gannon-Doak, as Bournemouth pressed forward in search of a way back.

Despite 53 percent possession and late chances from Evanilson and Gannon-Doak, the Cherries couldn’t find another breakthrough. Senesi, Tavernier, and Semenyo each marked their hundredth appearances in the match, reflecting a milestone evening despite the result.

City’s sharp finishing ultimately proved the difference as Bournemouth’s strong recent run was brought to a close.
