Fifty local residents have volunteered to support the Bournemouth International Film Festival, which will be held at the Hilton Bournemouth on 3 and 4 October.
Organisers say the response came after a single social media post calling for help with ushering, guiding guests, running screenings, check-in, passes and goodie bags. Volunteers will also have the chance to enjoy the festival themselves with free tickets provided.
The inaugural festival will showcase work from emerging and established filmmakers and will include workshops and networking opportunities for people interested in a career in the film industry. Its patron is actor Christopher Eccleston, who joins supporters including the BFI, NFTS, Arts University Bournemouth and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Festival Director Steve McCarten said he was delighted with the response. “We are thrilled by the overwhelming response to our social media post, with 50 local residents volunteering to support Bournemouth’s inaugural International Film Festival. This enthusiastic participation highlights the community’s interest in the festival and underscores how cultural events like this elevate Bournemouth’s reputation in the film industry.”
Organisers say the contribution of volunteers will be vital to the smooth running of the event, which is set to attract audiences from across the region.
