Property finance lender’s volleyball event raises £15k for hospices

Beach volleyball players from 20 companies in the property sector have helped to raise £15,000 for two hospice charities in championships organised by lender MSP Capital.

The Poole-based firm held the event on Bournemouth beach for the fourth year running, with proceeds split between Julia’s House and Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.

The latest contribution takes the total raised since the tournament began in 2022 to more than £55,000.

Leigh Bartlett, Chief Executive of MSP Capital, said the championships were a way of bringing people together while supporting local charities. He said it gave those taking part a chance to give back to the community while enjoying the competition.

Rachel Bartlett, the company’s Head of Marketing and People, also thanked all the teams who entered and highlighted the competitive spirit shown in support of the two hospices.

Both charities said the money would make a difference at a time when the costs of providing care are rising. Julia’s House said the donation would help them provide clinical care and respite support to families with children facing life-limiting and complex conditions. Lewis-Manning said the money would help them provide hospice care to local people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

The event saw six-a-side mixed teams compete in group matches before a knockout stage. RSM, last year’s runners-up, won this year’s tournament with a 38–16 victory over Interpath Advisory in the final.

Other businesses taking part included solicitors, accountants, property firms and recruitment companies. Beach volleyball specialists Deep Dish partnered with MSP Capital to run the day, which also featured referees, a compere and a DJ.

The event was held just before the UK Beach Tour’s Grand Slam Finals at the same location by Bournemouth Pier, with MSP Capital also sponsoring the national tournament.
