Firefighters were called to a heath fire near Three Legged Cross yesterday afternoon not too far away from a major fire which broke out two weeks ago.
Crews responded to reports of flames off Furzelands Road, just after midday.
The blaze spread across an area of about 50 by 20 metres of gorse, grass and woodland. By 1.30pm it had been surrounded and contained. Firefighters used hose reels and main jets to bring the flames under control and remained on site to dampen down.
At 3.25pm an update confirmed that one Land Rover and crew would stay for the afternoon to continue damping down. Additional crews were due to return later in the evening to check for hotspots.
The official stop message for the incident was received at 3.51pm. No injuries have been reported.
Verwood fire crews have since posted online saying some equipment left at the entrance to Joys Road has gone missing. “This equipment is used to quickly fill our appliances with water to deal with incidents and is a vital piece of kit,” they wrote on Facebook, whilst urging anyone with any information to get in touch.
Fire crews also returned to the scene of the Holt Heath fire on Sunday, which turned out to be a false alarm.
