Liverpool edged past AFC Bournemouth with a 4–2 victory in the opening match of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
The champions took control through Hugo Ekitike’s 36th-minute opener and a second from Cody Gakpo just after the break. Bournemouth fought back strongly, with Antoine Semenyo scoring twice, first from a David Brooks cross and later after good link-up play with Hamed Traore.
But Liverpool regained the lead late on, with Federico Chiesa striking in the 88th minute before Mohamed Salah added a stoppage-time goal to seal the win.
The fixture also marked Bournemouth debuts for summer arrivals Adrien Truffert, Đorđe Petrović, and Bafodé Diakité, with goalkeeper Petrović making a vital save early in the game. Former Cherries winger Milos Kerkez appeared for Liverpool for the first time against his old club.
Before kick-off, both sets of players and supporters observed a minute’s silence in memory of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who died six weeks ago.
Youngster Eli Junior Kroupi made his Premier League debut in the closing minutes, alongside James Hill, as manager Andoni Iraola looked to freshen the side.
