AFC Bournemouth beat by Manchester United in Summer Series match

AFC Bournemouth suffered their first defeat of pre-season after a 4-1 loss to Manchester United in a weather-affected Premier League Summer Series fixture in Chicago last night.

Rasmus Højlund gave United the lead in the eighth minute, poking home from close range. Danish defender Patrick Dorgu added a second midway through the half after slipping free inside the penalty area and lifting the ball over Đorđe Petrović.

Antoine Semenyo thought he had halved the deficit for Bournemouth with a powerful strike, but it was ruled out for a marginal offside.

Amad made it three shortly after half-time with a low finish, and Ethan Williams added a fourth following a run and cross from Diego Leon.

Bournemouth’s consolation came from a David Brooks run and cross which was deflected into the United net by Mattias De Ligt. Brooks had earlier come close to scoring himself, hitting the bar after his shot took a deflection.

The Cherries now move on to face West Ham United in Atlanta on Sunday 3 August, their final match in this summer’s US-based pre-season tournament.

The Summer Series is part of the Premier League’s wider international promotion and fan engagement strategy in the United States.
