Body discovery in the New Forest causes long delays on A31

A body found in the New Forest is causing delays for motorists on the A31 for the third day.

Police searching for a woman who went missing from Ilford in East London found the body near the side of the road on Saturday.

The road was closed at times and one lane remains restricted whilst investigation work continues.

Detectives confirmed the discovery was made on Saturday in the Bolderwood area of Hampshire, during searches linked to the disappearance of Yajaira Castro Mendez.

Formal identification has not yet taken place, but Yajaira’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The 33-year-old was last seen on Thursday 29 May. A murder investigation was launched following extensive enquiries by the Metropolitan Police.

Detective Inspector Jay Gregory, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a very sad development in the investigation and our thoughts are very much with Yajaira’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”

The post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course to confirm cause of death.

A man known to Yajaira was charged with her murder and appeared in court on Friday 6 June. He has been remanded into custody.

Police continue to appeal for information from the public that could assist their investigation.
