Hospital celebrates another landmark event as Emergency Department moves home

The Royal Bournemouth Hospital is celebrating another landmark event today.

As from midnight, the hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) moved to the new state of the art BEACH Building – just 100 metres away.

It’s now open with entrances for walk-ins, cars, and ambulances.

The new six-storey BEACH building is the size of 115 tennis courts.

It’s known as the ‘BEACH’ for Birth, Emergency, Critical Care and Children’s Health Department.

The building houses new purpose-built maternity and children’s units, an improved major emergency department and one of the biggest critical care units in the country.

It forms part of a £500 million investment in local health services.

Poole Hospital’s ED and Urgent Treatment Centre continues to operate as normal.
