Update: This article contains information on an earlier incident and the information below may no longer be relevant

Ringwood Road in Ferndown is closed both ways between Bear Cross roundabout and Longham Mini roundabout due to an incident this evening, with SGN blocking the road for safety reasons until further notice.

It comes following reports of a number of gas leaks around Longham Lakes.

The road is expected to re-open at 6.30am Tuesday.

A statement issued at 5.40pm by SGN says: “Following the work to repair the gas main on Ringwood Road in Longham, gas readings have been located within the opposite side of the road. Engineers will be working to excavate and carry out repairs overnight.

“Due to the location of the escapes in the road we’ll need to close road to complete these repairs. This closure means no through vehicle access past the work location.

“Vehicles/through traffic will be diverted via Northbourne roundabout, A347 back to Ferndown.

“Vehicle access for properties and businesses within the road closure.

“Once the road re-opens, we will need to return with two-way lights while final reinstatement of original excavations are completed.

“We’re very sorry for the disruption these emergency works will cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.”
