Poole’s Ellie Aldridge has become the first-ever Olympic gold medallist in kitesurfing.
The 27-year-old, who joined Parkstone Yacht Club as a child, earned Team GB its 13th gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games yesterday.
Kitesurfing involves competitors flying above the water at up to 45 knots powered by huge kites.
Ellie’s dad, Martin, is a partner in Poole accountancy firm PKF Francis Clark and a former windsurfing world champion.
A large contingent from Poole travelled to Marseille to watch Ellie in her medal bid.
