Bournemouth end good season with 2-1 loss to Chelsea

AFC Bournemouth’s impressive season has ended in defeat as two superb Chelsea goals succumb the Cherries to a 2-1 loss.

The opening goal was one for the history books as Bournemouth’s Neto gave the ball away to Moises Caicedo who lobbed the Brazilian goalkeeper from the halfway line to give Chelsea the lead.

The Cherries struggled to react but did strike the top of the crossbar from a long-range Ryan Christie effort just before the break.

Three minutes into the second half, Raheem Sterling topped off his solo run with a neat finish into the bottom corner to give Chelsea some breathing room.

However, that two-goal cushion was short-lived as Enes Unal’s shot was deflected off Benoit Badiashile and past Dorde Petrovic for an own goal.

Bournemouth came close to the equaliser on a few occasions with Dominic Solanke failing to net against his former side and even missing a glorious chance in added time.

Despite the heartbreaking defeat, Bournemouth finish the season 12th in a campaign where new boss Andoni Iraola has been nominated for Manager of the Season.
