AFC Bournemouth have lost their final home game of the season after late drama saw Brentford take all three points back to London.
VAR played a heavy part in the afternoon’s events and first intervened to deny Dominic Solanke’s opener after Antoine Semenyo was deemed to have handled the ball in the build-up to the goal.
Nine minutes later, the prolific English striker thought he’d found the net again only to be ruled out a second time for a foul on Brentford centre-back Nathan Collins.
Despite a plethora of chances for both sides, the score remained goalless at the break.
VAR was again involved in the second half as it ruled out a Brentford penalty after it resulted Illya Zabarnyi’s foul on Ivan Toney to be too weak.
After many opportunities for the opener from both teams it looked like the game was gonna end goalless before Bryan Mbeumo latched onto a Yoane Wissa ball to grab what was thought to be the winner.
However, Solanke finally got his goal when he rose above all to loop his header over Mark Flekken in the 90th minute.
But the game had further drama when Yoane Wissa fired past Mark Travers from a tight angle to win Brentford the rollercoaster game.
Bournemouth will be frustrated losing their final home game of the season but will focus on their final game of the league campaign next Sunday against Chelsea in a bid to secure a top-10 finish.
