Conservatives hold Canford Cliffs position following by-election
The Conservative and Unionist Party has held its position for Canford Cliffs following the BCP Council by-election.
Councillor Gavin Wright attracted 1720 votes, and will replace Cllr May Haines who resigned after 17 years.
Jim Buchanan of Labour Party won 317, Ray Sparrow of Liberal Democrats won 573, and Johnny Tutton of Green Party won 163.
Overall turnout was 35.41 per cent and there were 2,804 ballot papers issued.
Thirty-one ballot papers were rejected due to “Writing or mark by which voter could be identified”.
- CON: 62.0% (+10.4)
- LDEM: 20.7% (+1.9)
- LAB: 11.4% (+2.6)
- GRN: 5.9% (-2.2)
Voters in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole also voted on Dorset’s next Police & Crime Commissioner.
The four candidates are Howard Legg, for the Liberal Democrats; Conservative David Sidwick; Labour candidate David Stokes and Independent Marianne Storey, with the results announced tomorrow.
