Major disruption is continuing for rail passengers with no services from Dorset into London.
South Western Railway says one of its trains hit an object in the Walton-on-Thames area of Surrey at just before six this morning.
As a result, the front wheels of the train came off the track.
No-one was injured but all four lines were closed until further notice.
The rail company says there will be disruption until the end of the day and advised passengers against travelling.
The full statement from South Western Railway is:
“Due to a serious issue with the track at Walton-on-Thames all lines are blocked. Please do not travel as there are no services currently operating. Disruption is expected to last until the end of the day.
To assist you with your journey your ticket will be accepted, at no extra cost to yourself, on the following services:
– London Underground – via any reasonable route.
– Great Western Railway – via any reasonable route.
– Elizabeth Line between London Paddington and Reading.
– Southern Railway between London Victoria and Portsmouth and Southampton.
– TFL buses to cover all reasonable routes.
– Cross Country services between Reading and Bournemouth in both directions.
Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.
