Bournemouth survive Burnley pressure to secure a big away win

The Cherries have picked up a crucial three points after a close 2-0 away win over relegation-fighting Burnley to move to 13th in the Premier League.

The Bournemouth buzz was high even before the game after seeing the ever-prolific Dominic Solanke starting despite a midweek injury scare but the wind was soon taken out the Cherries’ sails when Marcos Senesi was brought off injured in the opening 12 minutes.

Despite this knock, Iraola’s men reacted well and an over-the-top ball by Lewis Cook found Justin Kluivert who sat down the Burnely defence to fire in the opening goal of the game.

Vincent Kompany’s men fought back well and created a whole host of chances with the best coming from a Jacob Bruun-Larsen free kick that was saved on the line by Neto.

Burnley continued their pressure in the second half and even put the ball in the net before Bruun-Larsen was deemed to have fouled Adam Smith before Josh Cullen fired past Neto.

Bournemouth managed to regain some control of the game and dealt the final blow to the Clarets when Lewis Cook’s superb weighted pass set Semenyo on a darting run that resulted in a deflected goal.

The Cherries’ win is the first for them in the league in 2024 while Burnley will feel their plethora of missed opportunities will come back to haunt them in their scrap to stay in the division.

Attention turns to a big 10 days for Bournemouth as they face Sheffield United and Luton Town looking to finally distance themselves from a potential relegation fight.
