Flag flies for Ukraine as BCP Council looks for more hosts

The Ukrainian flag will be raised at BCP Council’s Civic Centre to mark the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine tomorrow, Saturday.

More than 700 Ukrainians have settled across BCP through the Homes for Ukraine scheme since Russian forces instigated the war, which has forced more than six million to flee their homeland.

The Homes for Ukraine scheme, which is being administered by BCP Council alongside other organisations, continues to see residents giving accommodation to families from the war-torn country.

As conflict continues, many Ukrainians are still seeking safety. The council is looking for more hosts and landlords in the BCP area to support those who need to move on from their initial sponsorship agreement.

Councillor Millie Earl, Deputy Leader of BCP Council and Portfolio Holder for Connected Communities, pictured, said: “This Saturday marks two years since the invasion of Ukraine.

“We want to acknowledge and thank the hundreds of BCP residents who have opened their homes to Ukrainian guests, providing refuge and support.

“We are proud of how our local voluntary and community organisations have welcomed those fleeing conflict.

“We also want to thank those we work with to ensure refugees arriving from Ukraine receive the support they need.

“BCP Council remains committed to supporting those who have sought refuge and will continue to assist Ukrainian refugees in partnership with our residents, to access a place of safety and to support those who wish to make BCP their home.

“Our hearts and thoughts remain with the people of Ukraine and we hope to see an end to the war as soon as possible.”
