Closure of one of Poole Park’s entrances to stay in place for time being

The closure of one of Poole Park’s entrances to vehicles is to stay in place for the time being.

An entrance and exit point on Whitecliff Road, adjacent to Twemlow Avenue, was shut from January 17.

BCP Council said it was to promote environmental improvements in and around Poole Park.

A four-week consultation, coinciding with the closure, has now ended.

The council says it received a bigger response than expected with more than 5,000 entries.

It is now analysing all the responses and feedback but says the decision-making process will take longer than expected.

An open public meeting is expected to debate and consider the issue with the council’s cabinet due to discuss the closure at its May meeting or possibly sooner.

Cllr Andy Hadley, BCP Council Portfolio Holder for Climate Response, Environment and Energy, said:

“During the consultation period we have had a much bigger response than expected, with over 5,000 entries received.

“We are now looking at analysing all these responses and understanding every piece of feedback and insight on either side of the debate that park users took the time to share with us.

“It’s clear that with such a high response rate, the decision-making process will take longer than we originally planned, and it now seems more appropriate for this decision to be debated and considered in an open public meeting.

“That is why the item is on the forward plan to be discussed at the cabinet meeting in May, but we are looking at how we can shorten the timeline and discuss it earlier than that.

“Whilst we are reviewing the timeline, the entrance and exit to the park will remain closed as originally advised.”
