Lifeguard Christian prepares to take the plunge in 21-mile charity swim challenge

Bournemouth lifeguard Christian Mitchell will be swimming 21 miles – the equivalent of crossing the channel from England to France – in a charity challenge next week.

Together with students Arief McKenna and Justus Dirks, he’ll be raising money for Julia’s House children’s hospice.

The challenge is on Wednesday February 7 in the pool at Stokewood Leisure Centre where Christian works.

It will be in memory of seven-year-old Sophie Kline who died from a brain tumour nine years ago.

Christian said: “We’re really excited about this challenge and want to offer a huge thanks to BH Live for making this fundraiser possible.”

BH Live Active, Stokewood is managed by registered charity BH Live, in partnership with BCP Council.

Stacey Saner, Stokewood’s Centre Manager, said:Christian is a fantastic colleague and a friendly face to all of our customers.

“We wish him and his friends all the best with this fundraiser and hope they raise lots of money for an incredible cause.”

Laura Maidment, Public Fundraising Manager for Julia’s House, added: “We are incredibly grateful to Christian, Arief and Justus for taking on this mighty challenge.

“The funds they raise will help to provide vital care and support to local seriously ill children and their families, so thank you.

“Wishing them all the best of luck!”
