Bournemouth and Hammers share spoils after VAR drama

The Cherries have taken one point away from their London travels after a 1-1 draw filled with plenty of VAR controversy.

Bournemouth started the game in perfect style netting within three minutes before a lengthy VAR check halted celebrations but after it was deemed that West Ham debutant Kalvin Phillips played the final ball, Dominic Solanke’s 13th goal of the league season was given onside.

Iraola’s men dominated the rest of the first half but couldn’t beat Areola in the Hammers goal for the second time.

The turn of the half saw West Ham firing on all cylinders and it took 15 minutes before Kudus caused Lloyd Kelly too many problems and won a penalty much to the protests of the away side.

As always, James Ward Prowse netted from the spot and sealed a point for West Ham who are still looking for their first win of 2024.

The draw comes in the wake of some transfer deadline day business for the Cherries that sees Welsh international Kieffer Moore go on loan to high flying Ipswich while former Man City striker Enes Unal comes in on loan from Getafe.
