A31 closed during Wednesday morning rush-hour following fuel spillage

A fuel spillage on the A31 at Ringwood caused long delays on the surrounding roads on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services responded to the incident, which included a car falling off a trailer, just before 8am near the Ashley Heath interchange and the road was closed for around two hours.

There was major disruption to local public transport, as the A338 Spur Road was congested north bound, along with the A31 eastbound, the B3081 Verwood Road and A338 Salisbury Road, both southbound.

Traffic through Ringwood was also at a standstill as motorists diverted via the Avon Causeway and Christchurch Road.

The spillage happened shortly after another incident at the Blackwater junction on the A338, in which two people were arrested on suspicion of driving offences and subsequently taken to hospital as a precaution.
