Cyclist in serious condition after being found in road with head injuries

A cyclist is in a serious condition in hospital after being found in a Christchurch road.

The man, in his 50s and from Bournemouth, had head injuries and was taken by air ambulance to hospital.

He was discovered on the eastbound carriageway of Barrack Road, between the Bailey roundabout and the Stour Road junction, just before quarter to six last night.

The road was closed during the evening and traffic diverted.

Sergeant Mike Gatfield, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish how the cyclist came to sustain his injuries.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw a man on a black and blue Scott mountain bike in the area of Barrack Road on the evening of Sunday 7 January 2024 to please contact us.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured anything relevant on dashcam footage.”
