Clean-up operation underway – again – after heavy rain causes floods and chaos

Another big clean-up operation is underway today, Friday, after heavy rain caused floods and chaos in Dorset – for the second time this week.

Roads were closed, cars stranded and public transport severely disrupted as just under 28 millimetres of rain fell in 12 hours.

Flooding around the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site, including the Cooper Dean roundabout, affected traffic leaving the hospital at Castle Lane East causing severe congestion.

The Isle of Purbeck was a virtual island after the A351 in Corfe Castle became impassable.

Traffic on the A35 at the Bakers Arms roundabout, and adjoining roads, was also affected by floods.

A flood warning has been issued for the Lower Avon from Ringwood to Christchurch and the Lower Stour from Sturminster Marshall to Christchurch.
