Purbeck club plans hospice fundraisers

A year of fundraising events is being organised at Isle of Purbeck Golf Club for hospice care.

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care has been chosen as Charity of the Year by the club’s Seniors Captain, Stuart Hopkins, who is using his captaincy to support hospice services across Purbeck after the charity helped his family during his wife’s illness.

Stuart, 82, has played golf for more than 70 years and will begin fundraising with the Lewis-Manning Abseil Challenge on 4 July. A programme of events at the club will then continue throughout the year, including a Jazz Night on 27 June and a Charity Golf Day on 13 July.

He said: “I feel incredibly privileged to support Lewis-Manning Hospice Care during my captaincy year.”

Stuart added that the support provided to his family “meant so much to us” and said staff helped them through “a very difficult time” by offering emotional and clinical support while allowing him to continue caring for his wife.

The Jazz Night is being organised by Mayank Patel, owner of Hampstead Jazz Club, with profits supporting the charity. Teams from across the UK are also expected to take part in the charity golf day, with fundraising activities continuing later in the year during the club’s Seniors Open in August.

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care CEO Clare Gallie said support from the local community “makes a real difference to people and families across Purbeck and beyond.”
