Prison smuggling gang jailed

Four people have been sentenced for smuggling drugs and prohibited items into HMP Guys Marsh in Dorset.

Matthew Langdown, Brian Grady, Paul O’Shea and Kady Griffin were sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on 30 March after an investigation uncovered a conspiracy to bring drugs, mobile phones and SIM cards into the prison between January and September 2023.

Langdown, a prison officer at the jail, admitted conspiring to convey prohibited articles into a prison, supplying cocaine and misconduct in public office, and will serve a total of 4.5 years in custody.

Police said the scheme involved Langdown taking items into the prison hidden in protein powder tubs before Grady, an inmate at the prison, distributed the contraband to other prisoners.

O’Shea and Griffin supported the operation from outside the prison by supplying items and collecting payments from associates of prisoners who bought the goods inside the jail.

Detectives said financial enquiries identified payments totalling more than £60,000 linked to the operation and items discovered during searches were estimated to have a prison value between £90,000 and £190,000.
