Bournemouth dad swaps life for TV show

A Bournemouth businessman is swapping his lifestyle on television in a new episode tonight.

Steve Bolton, 58, appears on Channel 5’s Rich House Poor House on Sunday 29 March, where he and two of his children trade their £1million Bournemouth home and usual routine for a week living on a council estate in Havant.

He takes part alongside his son Charlie, 23, and daughter Ella, 22, swapping homes with Val Mayer, a full-time carer, and her mother Cleo, while also exchanging weekly budgets, leaving Steve and his children with £51.93 to spend.

The programme follows their time living each other’s lives, including a final effort where Steve and his children work overnight to transform Val’s back garden, bringing the experience to a close with a practical project.

Steve described the experience as life-changing, saying it “stopped me in my tracks” and left him feeling more motivated to support others, while both families have remained in contact and continued working together since filming ended.
