New Christchurch Post Office opens in town

Christchurch Post Office has officially reopened in a permanent new home in the town centre.

The Mayor of Christchurch, Councillor Vivienne Charrett, cut the ribbon on 26 March at the branch’s new base inside Premier at 24 Church Street, where customers, family and friends gathered for a community celebration marking the official opening.

The move secures Post Office services for the town centre with experienced postmistress Cilem Altun, who has run Southbourne Grove Post Office and Premier store in Bournemouth with her husband Ibrahim for the past 5 years.

Councillor Charrett said it was “wonderful news for Christchurch” to have a permanent Post Office and shop in the town centre, while Cilem said the couple want to “do the same in Christchurch” after building strong customer relationships in Southbourne.

The previous Christchurch branch had been run by a temporary operator, and the couple found and refurbished larger empty premises so they could combine Post Office services with retail, while keeping an experienced local team member and taking on extra staff.
