Dorset reablement success beats averages
More people in Dorset are regaining independence after illness without needing extra care support.
New figures show 92% of those using Care Dorset’s reablement service complete their support with no increase in their care needs, placing the county around 15% above the national average and ahead of the South West figure.
Reablement provides short term care, typically lasting around 6 weeks, helping people recover skills and confidence after hospital stays or illness, either in their own homes through community support or with live in care arrangements.
In the three months to February 2026, more than 12,000 hours of community reablement support were delivered across Dorset, reflecting the scale of demand for services designed to support recovery and reduce pressure on hospitals.
Managing director Chris Best said the service benefits both patients and the wider health system, adding that colleagues are “amongst the hardest-working people in the county” and that the results show “the fruits of that labour”.
