Prince of Wales visits Bournemouth homelessness project
The Prince of Wales has visited Bournemouth to highlight efforts tackling youth homelessness.
The visit formed part of The Royal Foundation’s Homewards programme, which is working in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole as one of 6 locations developing new ways to prevent homelessness before young people reach crisis point.
International delegations from Australia, Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands and Finland travelled to the town to learn from the work being carried out locally.
The Prince met the group and local leaders at Bournemouth Pier before they attended a session of the BCP Youth Homelessness Board, which brings together organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors to strengthen support for young people at risk.
The visit continued at The Bourne Academy where programmes supported by Homewards are testing early intervention approaches within schools.
These include projects designed to identify students who may be at risk of homelessness and offer support through education, housing advice and community services.
The Prince also met sixth form students who have taken part in tenancy rights workshops aimed at helping young people prepare for independent living.
