Cooking course launches in Bournemouth
A new cooking course in Bournemouth is helping residents learn simple and healthy recipes.
The Friendly Food Club has launched its Cook and Connect programme in Springbourne, running weekly sessions at Elim Church in Curzon Road where participants learn how to cook affordable dishes from scratch while meeting others.
The rolling 6 week course takes place on Monday mornings and welcomes beginners, improvers and carers, with all ingredients and equipment provided so people can take part and learn new cooking techniques.
Each session features a different recipe including tomato and vegetable pasta sauce, vegetable pancakes and rainbow stir fry, with participants helping to prepare the meals before eating together or taking the food home.
Andrea Leng, who attends with her son Ben Clegg, said he is enjoying learning cooking skills and gaining confidence, adding it is “fantastic to be able to cook together as mother and son”.
Participant Arsenal Whittick said the sessions have helped him learn to cook from scratch and understand healthy food, explaining he hopes to prepare meals for his daughter and cook with his grandson.
The programme follows similar groups in Weymouth and Swanage and is supported by Dorset Community Foundation, Asda Foundation, BCP Council and the South West Procurement Alliance.
