Cherries extend unbeaten run to eight

Evanilson and Sunderland's Noah Sadiki

AFC Bournemouth extended their unbeaten Premier League run to eight matches with a 1-1 draw against Sunderland at Vitality Stadium.

The visitors led at the break after Eliezer Mayenda reacted quickest in the 18th minute, finishing from close range when Đorđe Petrović could only parry Habib Diarra’s low strike into his path.

The Cherries created several chances before the interval, with Robin Roefs producing a series of saves to deny Marcus Tavernier on three occasions, while Junior Kroupi and Álex Jiménez also went close as the hosts pushed for a response.

Evanilson, introduced at half time in place of David Brooks, brought Bournemouth level in the 63rd minute when he rose at the far post to meet Tavernier’s cross and head home his fourth goal in nine top flight appearances.

Both sides pressed for a winner during a frantic closing spell, with Rayan’s low drive almost diverted into his own net by Omar Alderete deep into stoppage time, but the points were shared in front of a crowd of 11,240.
