Rural crime crackdown sees arrests and vehicle stops
Police forces from across the South West joined Dorset officers for a coordinated day of action targeting rural crime and waste offences across the county.
Dorset Police Rural Crime Team worked alongside colleagues from Avon and Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, as well as the Environment Agency and Dorset Council, to carry out intelligence led patrols and enforcement activity.
In the east of the county, ten vehicles were stopped, with five inspected by the Environment Agency. One driver was arrested following a positive drugs wipe and nine tickets were issued for offences including an overweight vehicle, an insecure load and no insurance. Three vehicles were handed prohibition notices for safety concerns.
Officers also stopped twenty one vehicles near the A35 Puddletown bypass, including caravans, trailers and plant machinery, checking them against national databases. One traffic offence report was issued and further advice given.
Inspector Adam Gill said combining the knowledge and expertise of regional colleagues gives police the best possible chance of tackling rural criminality, which is often linked to organised crime. He added that waste crime has a serious impact on rural communities and the environment.
