Dorset Lord-Lieutenant backs HealthBus

Support for a Bournemouth homelessness charity has been strengthened with the appointment of Dorset’s Lord-Lieutenant as its new Patron.

Michael Dooley, His Majesty’s representative in the county, has accepted the role with the HealthBus Trust, recognising its specialist work providing trauma-informed healthcare to people experiencing homelessness across Bournemouth and nearby areas.

A consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, Professor Dooley has spent much of his career focused on improving health outcomes and patient-centred care, and said it was “an honour” to support a charity whose approach demonstrates how local innovation can restore dignity and promote recovery.

The HealthBus Trust operates a CQC-registered mobile clinic three to four days a week, delivering essential healthcare, mental health support, chronic disease management and social prescribing to people without stable accommodation who often face barriers accessing mainstream NHS services.

Christopher Wakfield, Chairman of the charity, said the patronage affirms the value of its mission and strengthens its voice in highlighting the importance of collaborative community solutions to address unmet health needs in the area.
