Care home backs Poole families in need
Residents and staff at a Poole care home have raised more than £4,000 for families in need.
The total of £4,173.54 was collected over the past year at Bourne View in Langside Avenue through a programme of fairs, fetes, raffles, tea and togetherness sessions, business breakfasts and other activities held at the Colten Care home in support of Bourne Community Hub and its food store.
Hub representatives were invited to the home for a cheque presentation before the final amount was revealed, with Donna Crutcher, former vice-chair of Bourne Big Local which supports the hub alongside Poole Communities Trust, saying she “couldn’t believe it” when she saw the figure and had expected only a few hundred.
The money will help meet ongoing running costs at the food store, where donated items currently support between 40 and 50 people every week, and Donna said the team is focused on helping those in need and does not turn people away.
Stuart King, Home Manager at Bourne View, said residents decide which charities and good causes to back each year and were pleased to support the hub as their 2025 charity of the year.
Alongside fundraising and donating food, staff volunteers from the home have also provided hands-on help with gardening, and residents are due to visit the hub this summer to see the food store in operation.
