Bournemouth and Poole projects share record funding boost
Sixty community projects across Bournemouth and Poole are moving forward after receiving a record share of more than £950,000 from BCP Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy Neighbourhood Portion fund.
Grants ranging from a few hundred pounds up to £75,000 have supported cricket clubs, community centres, street tree planting and new facilities across the area, with council teams now working alongside local groups to deliver the schemes.
Merley Community Centre secured just over £130,000 through six successful bids, leading to new doors and toilets, table tennis facilities and a full resurfacing of the rear car park. Improvements are also under way at Ashley Cross Green, including repaired benches and lampposts, resurfaced pathways and new play equipment.
Funding has also provided a defibrillator at St Thomas’ Church in Ensbury Park, cycle stands at Sandbanks Promenade and Talbot Village, and support for Canford Heath surgery’s Patient Participation Group to help reach more patients with advice and health checks.
At the Russell Cotes, promenade sculptures have been repainted, the Mediterranean garden fountain restored and the Japanese garden bridge repaired.
Councillor Sandra Moore said it shows how money from local developments can be reinvested into community priorities. Councillor Andy Martin said the improvements at the Russell Cotes will enhance visits and help protect the museum’s heritage.
